Dr. Matthew Fowlkes
Matthew W. Fowlkes DMD, MD was born in Amory, MS. After graduating from Amory High School with honors, Dr. Fowlkes attended Mississippi State University. He graduated from MSU with honors in 2004 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He then attended the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS for dental school. It was here early on where Dr. Fowlkes developed his interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Dr. Fowlkes received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2008 from UMMC. Next he moved to New Orleans, LA for his advanced training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from LSUHSC in 2011. Dr. Fowlkes completed an internship in General Surgery and then completed his training with LSU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery by serving as chief resident at the Medical Center of Louisiana.
He is a diplomate in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Fowlkes is a member of the American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, and Northeast Louisiana Dental Association. Dr. Fowlkes is also active in the Louisiana Society of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons where he is currently serving as the President Elect and alternate delegate to the AAOMS House of Delegates. He actively serves on multiple committees at his local hospital as well as taking call for oral surgery emergencies and facial trauma. Dr. Fowlkes enjoys practicing a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery including dental implants, wisdom teeth, oral pathology, TMJ, facial trauma, reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Dr. Fowlkes is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he is the current Course Director of Dental Local Anesthesia and Pain Control and previously served as the Course Director of Head and Neck Anatomy
He married his wife Krista who is a nurse in 2013. He has three sons, Tucker, Wyatt, and Everett, who were born in Monroe, LA. They are members of Christ Church in West Monroe, LA. Dr. Fowlkes enjoys golf, hunting, fishing, and watching MSU and LSU sporting events.
