Dr. Matthew Fowlkes

Dr. Matthew Fowlkes is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who finds deep fulfillment in serving the Northeast Louisiana community. Practicing in Monroe allows him to combine the precision of dentistry and medicine with the joy of building lasting. Through his work, he helps restore smiles, alleviate pain, and enhance oral health, often forming meaningful connections with his patients. Dr. Fowlkes specializes in dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, complex dental surgery, and other advanced procedures.

Born in Amory, MS, Dr. Fowlkes grew up in a proud family of Mississippi State Bulldogs. He graduated with honors from Mississippi State University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2004. Inspired by a passion for surgical excellence, he pursued his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and then completed his medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2011. After an internship in General Surgery and a residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he served as a chief resident at the Medical Center of Louisiana.

A diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dr. Fowlkes has held multiple leadership roles. He has served as President of the Louisiana Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Louisiana delegate at the AAOMS House of Delegates and a member of the OMSNIC advisory board. Dr. Fowlkes has been a speaker at multiple CE events including the AAOMS annual meeting and is an associate professor at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. Fowlkes is a current board member for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Political Action Committee (OMSPAC) and has served on the board of Alli Management Solutions and the Academy of Collaborative Education, which empowers children with autism through innovative learning programs.

Family is central to Dr. Fowlkes’ life. He married his wife, Krista, in 2013, and they have three sons—Tucker, Wyatt, and Everett—and a daughter, Sohini, whom they adopted from India in 2021 after being called by Christ to adopt internationally. The family is deeply rooted in their faith and active members of North Monroe Baptist Church.

Outside of his professional and community endeavors, Dr. Fowlkes enjoys coaching little league sports, hunting, fishing, playing golf, and cheering on MSU and LSU sports teams.
