Same Day Teeth

Oral Surgery Associates proudly offers same-day dental implants. The doctors at our Monroe, LA, practice are highly trained and familiar with all types of dental implants. Using our advanced dental technology, Dr. Geist, Dr. Fowlkes and Dr. Gregory can place your implants and attach your restoration during the same appointment. As a result, you could enjoy full dental function almost immediately after your surgery. Plus, whether you receive a crown, bridge, or denture, your restoration will be extremely secure and lifelike.

Candidates for Same-day Dental Implants

To qualify for same-day dental implants, you must have a sufficient amount of bone tissue to support the posts. Unfortunately, jaw recession is an inevitable consequence of tooth loss. Therefore, if you have been missing teeth for some time, your jaw may not currently be strong enough for implants. Your doctor will use 3-D cone beam computed tomography (CT) scans and digital x-rays to examine your jaw for signs of bone recession. In many cases, he may be able to use state-of-the-art bone morphogenetic protein to stimulate tissue growth and improve your candidacy.

Thanks to same-day implants, you will not have to wear a temporary restoration or deal with several months of a limited diet.

In addition, all implant candidates must have good oral and physical health. If you suffer from gum disease, this may compromise your candidacy for treatment. Systemic health problems, such as diabetes, an autoimmune disease, or a blood disorder, may also impact your ability to receive dental implants.

Planning Your Treatment

Once one of our surgeons has determined that you are eligible to receive implants, we can begin planning your custom procedure. Using our top-of-the-line technology, your practitioner can design a treatment that will impact minimal bone tissue, resulting in little to no discomfort. He can also determine the strongest places for the posts, so you will face a very low risk of implant failure. Along with x-rays and CT scans, your practitioner may use the iTero® scanner to create digital impressions of your teeth. Then our lab can design a restoration and abutment pieces that will be a near-perfect match to your smile.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Before the procedure, your doctor will administer local anesthesia and a deeper form of sedation. We offer a range of sedation options, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas), intravenous (IV) sedation, and varying strengths of oral conscious sedation.

Once you are comfortable, your surgeon will make one or more small incisions in your gums. He will also create tiny post holes in your jawbone, anchoring the implants in these openings. Then he will carefully reposition your gum tissue around the implants and close the incisions with dissolvable sutures. Immediately after surgery, he will attach your custom-made restoration. When you leave the office, you will be able to chew normally and enjoy a wide range of foods. However, you will likely experience some slight sensitivity, so you may need to eat a soft diet for a few days. Thanks to same-day implants, you will not have to wear a temporary restoration or deal with several months of a limited diet.

Your jaw will fully heal around the implants in about four to six months. Once your recovery is finished, your dentist will remove the original restoration and attach your permanent prosthetic. Crafted from advanced materials, this final restoration will be virtually identical to your natural teeth.
