Meet Dr. Eric Geist

Dr. Eric GeistDr. Eric Geist is a native of Louisiana. He is married with two children, Brian, and Jared. He completed his undergraduate dental training at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans; he then completed the advanced educational program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans and associated hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He served on the Board of Directors and as President of both the Louisiana State Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Southeastern Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, which represents the 11 states in the Southeastern United States. Dr. Geist served for six years as a Board Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Afterward, he was elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons where he served for 6 years and ultimately as President of the Board. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and served on the Board of Trustees of the organization for 3 years and was elected Vice-President. He subsequently went on to serve as President of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a fellow of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, a Fellow of the American College of Dentist, a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Dental Honor Society, a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, an Honorary Fellow of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is among a select group of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons  accepted into full Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Geist is Clinical Assistant Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of Surgery at LSU Health Science Center, Shreveport. He also served as Clinical Associate Professor and Course Director of Head and Neck Anatomy and General and Oral Pathology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He has lectured extensively at National and State meetings. He served as President of the Northeast Louisiana Dental Association and served on both the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Dental Association and as a member of the House of Delegates. He received the LSU Dental School Alumnus of the Year award in 2011 and the Distinguished Service Award from both the Northeast Louisiana Dental Association and the Louisiana Dental Association in 2012. His areas of specialty include wisdom teeth, dental implants, reconstructive jaw surgery and arthroscopic TMJ surgery.
